Hmmm... I just looked and I do have it, and it is correctly installed
(it's 
part of the base mandrake installation). So it's odd that ./configure says 

that it isn't correctly installed.

Several reasons. (You see, my reasons may not be good, but I do have
them):

1. My experiences with RPMs have not been good
2. I have not seen an mdk RPM (but I admit that I didn't look hard). 
Someone on the mandrake expert reflector was basically told "what do you 
expect?" when he used a non-mdk RPM and nded up with a hosed system
3. Depending on what I see when I finally get it working, I might be able 
to contribute to ardour development.

I'll see if I can persuade ./configure that it can find libpanel, but if 
not then this is what I'll do. Thanks.
