and i would wholeheartedly discourage this approach. it would be much
more beneficial for the whole community to port JACK to BeOS. it would
be cool to see it ported to CoreAudio as well, but there's not much
motivation to do that.

Very, very similar. You'd just have source code to act as a reference,
rather than a manual for another program (such as protools), plus of
course libardour to implement the back end.
