I basically get it. Is the idea you're trying to describe the problem of the slight delay between the playback of the recorded track and the recording of the punchin, or the slight delay between the recording of the punchin and the time the player hears the punchin in his/her monitors? I guess I still don't see the need to plug in more than two of the outputs from the hdsp, unless I'm interested in simultaneously running multiple outboard effects, or having multiple monitors (headphones mixes?). I have 32 channels on my mixer. My initial plan was to connect all the aux sends to the inputs of the ADAT and HDSP, and all of the outputs of the ADAT and HDSP to their own mixer channel. Now I'm thinking I'm never going to use more than two of those ADAT and HDSP outputs. > The mixers that come with hardware drivers aren't > intended for producing processed stereo mixes. I think I can downgrade the firmware on mine to revision 10, if I can ever get to a windows box. This will let me run the present day hdsp drivers for Linux. The multiface has a pcmcia interface and talks to ADATs, which is important to me. Not to mention its gotten screamingly good reviews from everything I've read (albeit that's not much). I hear that Paul guy wrote the driver, too, and he seems pretty smart ;) > Do you ever use more than two outs (or 5.1 >> outs if you're that >> cool)? > > My studio is probably entirely different than your > setup because I use external mixing consols and return > all channels to the external hardware mixers. So are you re-recording each track along with it's punchin when you do this? That doesn't seem to make sense. Or is the punchin recorded at near enough the same time as the track plays back? > Now that I reconsider your question, I'm not sure what > you're asking. Do you want to sync ADAT machines with > Ardour and run them in sync? That seems like jet propulsion and I'm still figuring out the bicycle. If I can get to record on more than eight tracks at the same time, and all into Ardour, I will have made significant progress! Getting all of that to sync to Rosegarden is going to be a whole other project. Really, at this point, I'm only interested in using the ADAT as a pile of ADCs/DACs... Really my question was just me boggling over how best to "normally" connect the 8 new computer jacks to the mixer. It might be interesting to include some of this sort of material in with the Ardour documentation, such as it is. Thank you very much for answering.
