There are different patches from AM that intend to fix this.
These are called mm3.
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.5/2.5.62/2.5.62-mm3/
2.5.62 is the latest one.
According to AM 2.5.62-mm3 seems to be far superior comparing to
2.4.20-ll.
