Aaron,
   One of the 'quirks' about Ardour and it's setup file is that this
entry (sfdb) is a file, not a directory, so it would need to exist in th
directory /root.

   Ardour will create the file the first time you run Ardour if it has
write permissions to the directory.

   Does this explain your circumstances?
