    I've seen this problem when the <Keys> node of the ardour.rc gets 
    hosed up.  Look in the ardour toplevel directory and copy the 
    large <Keys> ...... </Keys> node from it to yours, which I 
    suspect is empty.  If that *is* the one you are using, remove it and do a 
    'cvs up'.
