But I just did this a couple days ago and I feel compelled to explain the problem better. Without the flag, both ardour and jack *should* use /tmp. That is not the case. Ardour always uses /dev/shm. So you have to set the flag to get ebuilds for ardour and jack to work at all. Anyway, have you tried building jack/Ardour from source by hand? Does it still fail?
