I'll second Jan's opinion. I've used the delta 44 faithfully with great
results for the price. It may seem a bit much compared to a consumer
card. I would consider it semi-pro. But the ease of use and the options it
gives are well worth the cost for a single user home studio. OTOH, the number
of channels is just not enough to record a band live and I recently got
a used delta 1010 (not the lite) for US$350. So think carefully about what
you'll want to do in the future and maybe hold off for more channels if
you think you'll need them.

No this will be fine. the only time I've noticed performance hits is with
using many plugins. On the studio's single CPU machine things get a bit
slugish. But at home its fine with dual 1 GHz AMD.
