Subject: [Ardour-users] first few questions about Ardour

First, I want to thank you everyone ivolved in creating of profesional
recording software for Linux. By myself I'm a musician and artist and
looking forward to drop a computers profesional support instead of
profesional studio recording and maybe even creating studio systems,
based on Linux if all goes well.

Now I see that system ALSA + JACK + Ardour is improving rapidly and of
coarse as fan of Linux and Libre/Free Software, I want to check it out
and if I got it to work in the useable form, I will use it, no doubt of
that.

However, It seems that I have little bit stucked with JACK and Ardour. I
have TerraTech EWS88MT. I have installed newest ALSA libs, tools,
soundcard drivers for kernel, etc. Everything works well. Got a sound
trough modprobe snd-pcm-oss, got a working envy24control. Even JACK is
ok (jackd -R -d alsa --device=ice1712 -r 96000 -H). ps ax shows that
jackd is fine and working.

BUT when I try to launch a Ardour, I got a such a message:

Loading UI configuration file /etc/ardour/ardour_ui.rc
cannot connect to jack server
cannot connect to default JACK server
ardour: [ERROR]: No JACK server found.
Killed

Question is - how does Aldour look for JACK? It looks for pid? For
socket? Yes, both jackd and ardour is launched from root, so it seems
not to be a problem.

Already thanks in advantage for any tip,
Peter K
