Hi,

I am running Ardour on a Planet CCRMA Fedora Core 1 system. I am using 3 hardware-synced ES1370 cards to record 6 simultanous inputs. I removed the crystals from two of the cards and chained their clocks after the first one. The system runs stable using jack with -n 3 -p 2048 with a latency of 65 ms.

I want to use the system to record my acoustic drumkit with Ardour. I am listening to a guide-track that has all the other instruments and a metronome click instead of drums. I have been doing this with my electric drumkit and Audacity for some time already with success. I would now like to record my acoustic kit.

With Ardour and my 3-card-6-channel system I get trouble with the 65 ms latency. Listening to my recorded playing in Ardour I can hear my drumming lagging just a little bit behind the guide click. I presume the delay is exactly the 65 ms caused by the big buffer, not me ;-).

The Ardour homepage mentions that Ardour provides compensation for the effect loop latencies. How about the recording path? Can Ardour compensate for the input latency? This should be a trivial thing to solve in Ardour, as the parameters are all known from Jack, and the input latency compensation can be achieved by automatically shifting the latest recorded tracks in time.

Does Ardour already do this? If so, how do I enable it?

br, Timo
