You might want to look at Yellow Dog Linux, a distro built for the 
PowerPC and based on RedHat.  I've never done any audio work with it,
but have used it to turn some old G3s into servers with much success.

I have also recently acquired a 3400c Powerbook (I dunno what model the
Pismo was) but have yet to take the Linux plunge with it since I need
a MacOS 9 machine for compatibility with work.

I'd be interested in hearing how things progress here, though!
