I am new to my distribution of Gentoo and don't want to break it.. I believe I installed ardour using the emerge (portage) system they use, though I have installed a lot of things on other systems with tar balls. I believe there is a way to make it into an 'ebuild' that doesn't break the system that I may have to spend a bit of time on researching.
