Hmm, I do have a nice little yamaha mx12/4 board I could use.. but space 
is a premium. Maybe I need to get this out of the living room.

I've heard great reports on the Mackie monitors.. of all sizes depending 
on budgets. I may choose to go with a smaller monitor for now.. this is 
after all just a hobby for me.

Part of the reason I asked these questions is the fact that I cannot 
audition the gear, so have to rely somewhat on consensus. Lots of hours 
researching stuff on the internet before purchases. I'm on the edge of 
the earth, west of Hawaii and north of where everybody ought to be. 
Nome, Alaska. Right near Russia.

Thanks all for the data points, I'm willing to hear more. Thought about 
asking about headphones... but thought better of it.
