Demand ppp fails with read:Bad file descriptor(9)

I am unable to use demand ppp with current 2.3 kernel (tried
2.3.45-47-5). It works fine under 2.2.14.

Manual connection works but demand fails with 'read:Bad file
descriptor(9)'.

I have also found this error crop up while using ftp.

Any ideas???
