Something is slightly weird. What does your /proc/ioports say? Mine with
    2.3.49:

    # cat /proc/ioports
    0000-001f : dma1
    0020-003f : pic1
    0040-005f : timer
    0060-006f : keyboard
    0080-008f : dma page reg
    00a0-00bf : pic2
    00c0-00df : dma2
    00f0-00ff : fpu
    01f0-01f0 : ide0
    01f1-01f1 : ide0
    01f2-01f2 : ide0
    01f3-01f3 : ide0
    01f4-01f4 : ide0
    01f5-01f5 : ide0
    01f6-01f6 : ide0
    01f7-01f7 : ide0
    0300-031f : WD8013
    03b0-03bb : mda
    03bf-03bf : mda
    03f6-03f6 : ide0
    4c80-4cdb : aha1740
    6000-6fff : NE3200

Notice the many ide0 entries for eight consecutive port addresses. With
    2.3.46 it looks like this:

    # cat /proc/ioports
    0000-001f : dma1
    0020-003f : pic1
    0040-005f : timer
    0060-006f : keyboard
    0080-008f : dma page reg
    00a0-00bf : pic2
    00c0-00df : dma2
    00f0-00ff : fpu
    01f0-01f7 : ide0
    0300-031f : WD8013
    03b0-03bb : mda
    03bf-03bf : mda
    03f6-03f6 : ide0
    4c80-4cdb : aha1740

Notice that ide0 only takes two entries here.
