The Well Known Ports are those from 0 through 1023.
The Registered Ports are those from 1024 through 49151.
The Dynamic and/or Private Ports are those from 49152 through 65535.

So a range of 51024 to 54999 would be OK to use.
There are hundreds or thousands of services registered
       in the current Linux range.

Hmmm, Solaris seems to use such a range too.

Ok, this needs to be fixed then. Thanks for making
    us aware of the issue.
