    In my case I now suspect this is due to using modutils which doesn't add
    ide to the directories (haven't checked, but that was the cause of sinilar
    problems before, and I upgraded top Red Hat 6.2 in between, which in turn
    downgraded modutils to 2.3.9). You should add:

       keep
       path[ide]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`/ide

    at the beginning of /etc/modules.conf (or conf.modules, whatever you use),
    or upgrade to modutils-2.3.10 at least.

    Sorry for wasting your time.
