Yeah, I suspected that this was going on at a deeper level than the sound
card driver. Is this something I'm doing wrong, or something in the
kernel that needs fixing ? I'm guessing the latter since the same card (I
should say cards, I tested two identical ones just in case) works fine in
2.2.14, with either driver.

BTW, it also bears mentioning that this is an SMP kernel.
