    The second problem is with ppp. The ppp general portion of the kernel
    loads according to dmesg, but when I attempted to run MAKEDEV -update I
    received that ppp is unknown. I think that the problem is when the ppp
    driver was devided up into three parts.

    Sorry for the bother, but the shutdown problem really has me stumped.
    Needless to say I resorted back to kernel version 2.3.48 which seems a
    little more stable. Have a good day :-)
