      Yes, OSS supports YMF744 -- you just may need to configure apmd to
    kill everything that uses sound and run soundoff on suspend and soundon on
    resume. As a fallback YMF744 can emulate 8-bit SB, and linux driver will
    put it into the emulation mode, however obviously 8-bit SB sucks compared
    to the native mode.
