pre-compile time error

    i can't get this to go away; make depends are always fine on my machine,
    but no matter how i configure the sound, i get the following message, a
    terminal error :( i can't think of what else i should do; i ran through
    .depend and couldn't c what it was talking about. anyway, the message;
    hope i'm of some help:
