how to capture a kernel panic?

    Is there anything similar to the kmsgdump patch available which works
    for the 2.3.99-preX series? I'm experiencing a kernel panic with a
    hard lockup under pre8, and I'd like to dump the information to a
    diskette. This is for a standalone home system, so I can't just setup
    a serial console (no second machine to connect to it) to capture the
    contents.
