    Yeah - I had the same prob with xconfig on 2.3.99-pre8 - and just about the
    exact same output. I installed the pre7 patch, then the pre8 patch after
    running pre6. pre6 didn't have any problem with "xconfig" then, but I did
    run into probs (and still am having those probs) with "menuconfig" - yelled
    at me about ncurses, but it's not an ncurses problem, at least I don't think
    it is... (I'm still having those probs btw - if someone can tell me how to
    fix menuconfig & xconfig, I'd be a happy camper).
