    Which allows the non kernel part to go scribblign directly on the hardware.
    Because X stuff (open and closed) goes directly beating on the hardware
    you need to be able to see both. Its unusual in that respect since generally
    you can say 'proprietary app crashed kernel - bug in kernel', but not in
    this case nor with things like the original 3dfx stuff with the proprietary
    library and hardware you can hang just by talking to it funny
