New 2.2.16: Why has DVD-RAM support been removed from scsi.c?

After months of applying an unofficial patch to the scsi.c file
whenever there was a new kernel release, in order to allow my
Panasonic LF-D101 DVD-RAM to be fully supported, the powers that be
finally included official support a few releases ago. That support
continued up to and including 2.2.15.

2.2.16 was released just a few days ago and virtually the only
difference between the 2.2.15 and 2.2.16 versions was that the
required "ghost" device support has been removed.

Can anyone say why this was done? It was working perfectly ok.

    Thanks.
