The above is the top output of kapmd using lots of CPU time while running on
an Athlon 800 with K7V motherboard. I see similar results from my Thinkpad
600E (Celeron 400). This occurs under both 2.4.0-test1 and 2.4.0-test2-ac2.

I have compiled the kernel without ACPI because my Thinkpad does not work
properly with ACPI (it won't suspend correctly - sometimes won't suspend at
all until it runs out of power). I am unsure of whether this is an ACPI or
    Thinkpad problem.
That is OK, as I don't think that I need any functionality above what is
provided with apm, if APM works correctly. In the past I have had 2.2.x
kernels working on my Thinkpad with no excessive use of CPU time. Now with
2.4.0-test* top reports excessive CPU time used by a kernel thread, and the
battery runs out very quickly on my Thinkpad (so I'm sure it's not a top
    error).

Is this a known bug? Is there any patches for it that need testing?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Please accept my
apologies if 1000 other people have already reported this.
