    Aha! Now I know what compiler you're using. Is there general agreement
    in the cabal that gcc-2.91.66 is Good[tm]?

    Even if it's good for the kernel, is it also thought to be good for
    user-space (i.e. any known nasties)?

    If you do that, please announce it on linux-kernel. This is a major
    change that shouldn't be just left to the Documentation/Changes file.
