cat seem to record with an es1371

I am trying to port a es1371 device driver to the IBM 405gp in the
2.4.0-test2 kernel. I can seem to play OK, but I cant seem to record
All, I get is silence and the file created when i do record has all 7f
and 0x80 in
it. Does anybody have any ideas?
