For those of you who followed the recent string of messages related to
a desire for clean, mountain-fresh air, I use a relatively small (about the
size of a toaster-oven) air purification system, that has a very
inexpensive operating/life-cycle cost, and that will purify the air in a
3,000 square foot house. It will keep dust, pet hair and dander out of
your PC case and keyboard, without the need for expensive filters.
One of the worst sources of dust in a home is from the ashes when you
shovel them out of the wood burning stove. I heat my entire five-bedroom
home with a fireplace-insert, using free wood, and my computer is
located in the same room -- only twelve feet from the woodstove. With
the air purifier operating 24-hours-per-day, and consuming less than
30 watts of power, I have no dust in or around my computer, printer, etc.,
and do not even bother to cover the computer hardware when not in use
-- despite its close proximity to the periodic ash-shoveling activity.
I plan to attend the NoVaLUG meeting on Saturday and will be available
after the meeting to answer any questions you may have concerning the
state-of-the-art technology that I insist upon for my home and at the
office.
I still have a slight hang-over from the nice meeting that you held at the
Old Dominion Brewery, in Ashburn, a while back. The Orphan Penguin
Colony that I have in my basement (that can only survive the summers
because of the nice breathing environment) has been hinting to me that
it is time to share the gospel about clean air when someone seeks
knowledge.
Bob Gage.

Can anyone offer advice or suggestions for relatively small, inexpensive
air filters that might be effective at trapping some of the dust and
nastiness that otherwise gets sucked into PC cases? I'd rather avoid
those monstrous hepa filters, or anything with short-lived or expensive
filter cartridges.
Thanks,
-Peter
